Police in Moyo District are investigating a case in which one of the locals grabbed a gun from a police officer and shot him dead.
Majid Moro, a police officer from Koboko District was killed at Onyire village, Logoba Parish in Moyo Sub County. He had been deployed to handle a case of mob justice attack on another resident, where they had accused other neighbours of involvement in the death of two young men.
Mr Joseph Alumai, the LCII chairman for Logoba Parish said that the two casual labourers aged 18 and 21 fell sick shortly after returning from their employer’s home.
They had reportedly gone to demand for their payment for delivering timber to one of their employer’s clients.
“We got information that some people had mobilized and stormed the suspect’s home to revenge their deaths. However, they did not find him there. When police arrived to contain the situation, angry residents started pelting stones at them. During the scuffle, one of the residents grabbed a gun from a police officer and shot him. He died on the spot,’ he said.
He further said that the suspect is on thr run but investigations are underway and they’re looking for him.
The 2 deceased died after a few hours from reaching the hospital. This angered the residents which sparked off the fight.
